My wife K.C. is pretty crafty. She’s been sewing fairly regularly over the last two decades both personally and professionally. When I’m in my office pecking out blog posts or tying flies, she’s often in her sewing room designing and creating all sorts of items for either herself, Lilly, our extended family & friends, or to be sold in her Etsy shop.
K.C.’s had different things in her shop over the years. First diaper bags, then aprons, later “Elf on the Shelf” clothes, pandemic inspired face masks, and most recently tote bags and baskets. With almost 7000 Etsy sales and a five star shop rating, she must be doing something right.

The other day I asked her if she could make me a sock for one of my fly rods. When I re-purchased the Redington Classic Trout a few years back it came with a rod tube with internal dividers for each segment, which I really don’t care for. I prefer the old school fabric sock to put the rod in, tie up, and then slide into the tube. So I figured I’d remedy that issue, or see if she could.
Well, when I got home from work yesterday, she surprised me with the rod sock I had requested. (That was fast!) The poorly lit and chaotically stickered desk backdrop doesn’t really do justice to how totally excellent this came out. A fly rod sock with retro Phillies fabric and a ball glove colored canvas backer. It’s amazing. She did an awesome job!

Weird thing is I think she may have enjoyed making something a little bit different than her typical projects. She even made a TikTok to show it off…
Anyhow, I haven’t been very “fishy” lately, so figured I’d share something tangentially related to fishing. Only 7 more days until the Driftless, so that’ll end soon!
