First off, if you have power to read this, I appreciate it. I understand that Winter Storm Fern is probably messing with a bunch of you in some form today. Snow, sleet, ice. Clearly some messy weather that could gum up the works for the next few days for those in her path. I hope everyone impacted is safe and warm. While I don’t love living in Florida, storms like this are one of the few things I don’t miss one bit about the Northeast.

But that’s not why I mentioned May. Although that is certainly a much warmer and pleasant time of year.
Instead, I recently booked my (somewhat) annual trip to the Wisconsin Driftless for the first weekend of May. I usually go up for the Midwest Tenkara Fest, which is being held at the same time, so that is certainly in the plans… but tacked on a few extra days on the back end too.

A couple of fishing friends and I are going to stay at the larger of the two rentals on a farm. It’s a great location with a trout stream on premises (I stayed solo at the smaller of the two back in 2022), and a unique arrangement. You don’t always get a text from your Airbnb host that says “LMK in advance if you want any beef or pork taken out in advance so it’s ready to grill for your stay.”
Gonna run up a big meat tab for sure…
Anyway, the countdown clock has begun and I can’t wait to do a little tenkara and fly fishing out on some of my favorite waters again. So, I’ll end as I started, “Is it May yet?”
