K.C. & I Visited Lilly in Ohio over the weekend. It was a quick trip to celebrate her birthday, as well as see Kent State’s production of The Wiz. Lilly was backstage tending to wardrobe and makeup for the Scarecrow and another ensemble member. The show was great, the kids were amazing, and not just because one of them was mine.

We got to spend a little down time with Lilly in-between performances… lunch here, Walmart there… and a run to the Joann Fabrics corporate store. It’s attached to their headquarters. Considering the proximity to Lilly, and the fact that one of her concentrations is going to be costuming, it’s kind of a shame they’re in bankruptcy and will be closing all locations shortly. 🙁

But the real reason I’m posting is to toss up some photos from The Bomb Shelter in Akron, Ohio.

It’s an antiques store unlike any other I’ve ever visited. (Admittedly, I haven’t visited many). It was jam packed with all kinds of retro and vintage “stuff”. I mean if you were looking for anything from over the last 80 years, it was likely there. And if it wasn’t, they even have a DeLorean on premises surely used to go back in time to pick it up.

Anyway, considering the sheer tonnage of widgets and gizmos, the store was well organized and merchandised into departments, from housewares to sporting goods to music and records. As such, I wanted to drop some photos here for posterity as I thought they would make a fun gallery.

See what I mean? Pretty awesome.

My wife and I used to visit antique shops when we were younger. We would buy things we thought we couldn’t live without, only to discover months later that we really didn’t need those items after all. We could spend hours in a place like that! I’m glad you all got to visit with Lilly.
Fortunately, all I left with was nostalgia. It was really fun to walk through the store though. It was a great (but short) visit.
