Giving Bluesky a Try…

I don’t exactly know why. Maybe because I like goofing around on different tech platforms? But I gave Bluesky a try for the first time yesterday.

Not familiar? It’s basically a Twitter, (excuse me, I mean X), clone. It has gained some notoriety because it’s not tethered to Elon Musk.

Is Bluesky any good? Well, so far so good. But it’s a bit hard to find the accounts (or their proxies) I interacted with on X. Particularly in my preferred areas of interest – fly fishing, pro wrestling, and Philly sports.

But the user interface is way better than rival X-alternative Threads. I had been giving Threads an honest go since the summer, but I’m just not feeling it.

It’s a shame Threads is clunky to use because it benefits from a huge user base. Most users were “acquired” by importing pre-existing accounts from its parent platform, Instagram (Meta). If Threads wasn’t so awkward, and its users weren’t so into “vague posting” stupid stuff for engagement’s sake, it’d be a cool app. I’m still holding out hope they can figure out and fix some of that.

Back to Bluesky, if you’re interested in giving it a try too, find and follow me HERE. I’d love to re-connect with some of the T! Party over there.

Oh, and while I don’t care for Mr. Musk, this isn’t a politically driven post. Despite the obnoxious amount of ads and straight up porn you’ll find in the comments of any popular post on X, I’m not jumping ship quite yet. It still can’t be beat as a real time news and feedback aggregator. I just might be a little less active. Not that I was hugely active there in the first place.

Can they just bring Google+ back?
