50 Million Anglers

Last week Conservation Hawks kicked off a campaign called 50 Million Anglers ahead of this year’s November elections. It focuses on encouraging anglers to make their voices and concerns heard by the way they vote, as well as interact with their politicians, from national to local levels.

From their release:

Watch five respected fly fishers — Craig Mathews, Tom Rosenbauer, Hilary Hutcheson, Kirk Deeter and Todd Tanner — share their thoughts on climate change in this short PSA.

If we want to hold on to our fly fishing in the face of human-caused climate change, and if we want to give our kids and grandkids a shot at a decent future, then we need to get out and vote this November!

This is something that hits home personally. I can’t recall a time in my life when weather was so extreme. The summers are hotter and drier, the winters harsher, and natural disasters seemingly more and more destructive. And that’s before we even discuss the pollution one can see visually. None of that bodes well for wildlife, including fish.

Fortunately, our community is far and wide and our collective voices can be heard. 50 million anglers is a lot of people. But only if we choose to speak up.
