It’s funny… I’ve been goofing around in the fly fishing blogging scene for almost two decades. I’ve never really considered anything I’ve written to be meaningful or influential at all… but please don’t tell that to the folks at Astral.
My friend Anthony was shopping for some water shoes yesterday, and came across this quote smack dab in the middle of the product page for the Rassler 2.0 on the Astral website.
Michael, Founder of Tenkara Angler… sounds like he’d be a true authority on the subject… a man of extreme knowledge… hey, wait… that’s me?
Some background, I picked up a pair of Astral Rasslers (with my own money, I have no professional or even amateur affiliation with Astral) a few years back and wrote an article about how I think they’re an awesome wet wading shoe for a rock-hopping, Appalachian stream fishing type of fly angler. And they are. They’re super grippy and way lighter than pretty much any wading boot out there.
I guess Astral liked the article. That’s pretty cool. I never heard from them regarding the article (not that I expected to) and wasn’t aware they were going to use this quote on their website or product marketing, (not that I’m complaining). Definitely an ego stroke that makes this typically non-influential person (just ask my wife & teenage daughter) suddenly feel important.
Anyway, I guess things like this are bound to happen every once in a while. I’m sure the fly fishing paparazzi are not far behind. Better keep an eye out for my name or likeness on TMZ. Ha! Who’d of thunk it?
